Why use IP CCTV SystemsWhy use IP CCTV Systems
Why use Network CCTV systems? Using IP CCTV technology rather than standard CCTV methods allows you to take advantage of many new technologies:
Many buildings are already fully equipped with Local Area Networks (LANs). The Camea network CCTV system allows you to position cameras, recorders and viewers anywhere on the LAN, using the existing LAN infrastructure. You no longer have to install co-axial and power cables to each camera location; the live networked CCTV images are relayed around the network on the existing cables. Installing or extending a LAN is now very easy and economical. If you already have an existing CCTV system, this can be easily integrated into the network system using Camea video servers.
The network cameras and video servers can all be connected via wireless links to the main network to enable you to position cameras where you need them, not just where you can get cable access. Wireless links can also significantly reduce cable costs and inconvenience. Two or more buildings on a site can be simply connected by a wireless link.
Power can be supplied to the fixed network cameras over standard Local Area Network cables (CAT-5 or CAT-6). PoE enables you to inject power into the network cable at the hub end and then split it out into data and power at the camera end. This has two significant advantages:
Kits are now readily available which allow standard Local Area Network traffic to be transmitted over mains electricity (generally speaking, if the sockets are on the same meter they can communicate LAN traffic).
Broadband allows fast and economical IP data links between sites and to/from the Internet. Camea's IP cameras and servers can take full advantage of this facility by transferring the video signal over the IP network. Subject to security and communications links, ViewCommander viewers and Internet browsers can access the video images over the IP links. Remote cameras can form part of the server management, control, and recording arrangements. |
