CCTV Systems for Educational and Medical Establishments

CCTV Systems for Educational and Medical Establishments

Traditional School CCTV systems can provide your establishment with a number of benefits:

  • When prominently installed, CCTV for Schools can act as a strong deterrent against theft, vandalism and aggression and can be used to identify perpetrators and provide evidence where necessary.
  • CCTV can help with access control, full-time or out-of-hours, for example in monitoring a number of different entrances and exits.
  • CCTV can help in monitoring the movement and actions of staff and other people on the site.

Digital, Networked CCTV offers you the following additional benefits over traditional CCTV systems:

  • If your establishment is already cabled for local area networks (which is likely to be the case), network cameras can be installed on existing cables - no need for additional expensive video cabling. Power can also be supplied to the cameras over standard Ethernet cables using new 802.3af Power over Ethernet standards, eliminating the need for additional power cables and providing the possibility of a single UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to power the complete system.
  • If you have a campus-style establishment you probably already have wired or wireless Ethernet connections between the various buildings. You can now integrate CCTV into this network without the need for further cabling.
  • Wireless Network CCTV Cameras use well-established wireless Ethernet networking protocols (including strong encryption) and can be integrated into an existing wireless network or can be used separately. Wireless Ethernet has been developing rapidly recently and is now much more effective and secure than traditional wireless links. Wireless Ethernet Cameras can now be installed in areas which were previously inaccessible.
  • Network-enabled Digital Video Recorders (DVR) record in compressed digital format on standard hard disk drives. Disks can store 30 days or more history and can be set to automatically overwrite oldest data - no more changing tapes or running out of tape. Digital DVRs can be set to record on a complex schedule based on day-of-week and time-of-day; they can also be set to record only on motion detection or alarm trip.
  • Network DVRs and cameras can be housed anywhere on the network - no need to re-route video cables when making building modifications.
  • Live and recorded images can be viewed from any PC connected to the network (subject to security constraints) simply using a web browser. If the local area network has a broadband connection, the images can also be viewed remotely over the internet from any authorised PC.
  • Recorded footage can be automatically stored and managed off-site - outsourcing the management of the CCTV system.
  • Existing traditional CCTV cameras can be integrated into the networked system by using a network-enabled DVR - allowing for a cost-effective and simple upgrade path from traditional school cctv systems systems.
