What are the different types of Video Sensor?
CCD (Charged Coupled Device) and CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) are used for the image sensors of the vast majority of network CCTV systems. They both transform the image from the lens into electrical signals. In general, CCDs are more expensive and produce a better image. CCDs operate much better in a wide range of lighting conditions and are almost always used in outdoor applications. CMOS is adequate in well-lit, internal applications with stable lighting conditions. CMOS cameras usually produce a ‘softer’ image, while CCD devices usually provide a ‘sharper’ image with better colour definition, however, CMOS devises are rapidly catching up with CCDs in the functionality and are likely to be used in newer IP cctv systems.
